Learn How To Play Acoustic Guitar - Read A Guitar Tab - Part 1

An easy way to learn how to play acoustic guitar is by reading the guitar tabs. When learning the guitar tablature you know how to play the notes. Read on to find out how to read a guitar tab easily.

A guitar tab looks very much like a music sheet. The only difference is that a music sheet has five lines while a guitar tab has only six. These six lines are for the strings of the guitar. Just keep in mind that the strings are always ordered from the thinnest to the thickest and that the bottom line is always the thickest string. Here is an example of what a guitar tab is:



Now let's clarify a few things if you are a beginner, right handed, and you do not know what a fret is.

When you hold the guitar, you are using your left hand. The other hand, which is your right hand, is called the picking hand. This is the hand you are going to use to play the notes on the guitar. When looking at the neck, you will see bars that run across it. You will usually find 22-even though some guitars can have more- and they are positioned closer to each other as you move up the fret board closer to your body.

In the guitar sheet above, you would place the fourth finger of your left hand right behind the fourth fret of the thinnest string and pick the string with the right hand. You just played your first note on the guitar! How easy was that?
